This policy says what personal information Newsreel collects, why we keep it, and when we delete it. We publish it because the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act requires a written retention policy, and because schools and libraries ask for one.

We do not collect GPS or precise location, a home address, a date of birth, a phone number, or a photograph. Newsreel Classroom does not collect location from students at all.
Anyone can ask us to delete their information by emailing jack@newsreel.co. We do it within 30 days. A school or library can make the request on behalf of its readers, and a parent can make it through their school.
When a school or library subscription ends, we delete the personal information of its readers from our live systems within 30 days. We do not restore deleted information from backups, and backups roll off within 90 days.
Payment records are the one exception. Tax law requires seven years, and those records hold the institution's billing details rather than a reader's activity.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If the change is significant we will tell current school and library customers directly rather than relying on them to check.
